Electronic Newsletter, Free E-Mail Part of New Alumni Internet Services

Alumni can now receive a new monthly electronic newsletter and find a host of alumni services online-including free e-mail-thanks to a major expansion of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alumni Association's Web and Internet services.

The first edition of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NewsLinks, a free, monthly e-newsletter for alumni and friends about the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, was sent to 14,000 alumni in April. The newsletter, put together by the staff of Columns, is designed to keep alumni and friends informed about campus news, trends, research and features on a timely basis. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NewsLinks also takes advantage of the Internet to bring links to fascinating (and unusual) Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-related Web sites, opportunities for quick feedback, a monthly trivia contest and more.

To subscribe to the free e-newsletter, go to and click on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NewsLinks.

To take full advantage of all Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵAA Internet services-including a free e-mail account-alumni should apply for a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID-the best way for alumni to get connected with their alma mater and each other.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID stands for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Network Identification. Your Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID is your personal identification which allows you access to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ online services.

Registering for a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID is simple and doesn't cost a cent. Alumni with a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID can set up a free, two-megabyte Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ e-mail account with forwarding options, and get access to MyÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ, a customizable Web page that you can set up with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ information you use the most, such as links to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Libraries catalog or the latest news from Husky Sports Information.

Until recently, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetIDs and the associated alumni services have been available only to alumni graduating after 1998. Now the same services are open to all Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ alumni. Those who have graduated since 1998-about 30,000 new alumni-still have their student Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID active, along with their student e-mail account, although the size of that account is now set at 2 MB.

Activating a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ NetID takes about 10 minutes. You'll need some information to verify your eligibility for alumni services and access to the World Wide Web. When you're ready to register, go to and click on "Online Services" on the left menu bar. You will need your last name, alumni/member number (available on your membership card or on the label of your Columns magazine) and either the last six digits of your Social Security number or your Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ student number and birthdate.
