FEATURED HUSKIES FROM THE 17TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

"Raised in Atlanta by a father passionate about technology and a mother dedicated to social justice and education, I grew up inspired to bridge those two worlds. My work focuses on using technology to expand access to education and build tools that support students and communities. I’m also committed to making tech more accessible by sharing my experiences, my learning journey, and showing others that there’s space for them in tech."

"Through classes, on-campus organizations, personal projects and internships I have experienced at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, the people and friends around me created an environment where my opinions and perspectives were valued. This feeling of belonging played a huge role in my learning and growth. Being surrounded by such positive energy is why community has been the core of every project I’ve worked on and I’m excited to continue using the power of design to bring people together."

SERVING THE 17TH LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ facilitates hundreds of programs in communities across the state. Below are a few that operate in your district. Programs active as of January 2023.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ in the High School

Through the program, high school sophomores, juniors and seniors can complete Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ courses — and earn college credit — in their own classrooms with their own teachers. Teachers are approved and trained by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty to teach official Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ courses using Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ curriculum, activities, texts, tests and grading scales. Participating students can earn college credits at a fraction of the cost, and these credits are accepted by most colleges and universities across Washington and around the country. Partner high schools can offer Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ coursework in computer science, math, science, world languages, humanities and social sciences. .ÌýÌý

Young Executives of Color

YEOC focuses on engaging high school students of color in a comprehensive curriculum that includes college preparation, professional development, business lectures and powerful mentorship. The program, which is free to students, currently serves 190 students from over 75 high schools around Washington state.
