FEATURED HUSKIES FROM THE 23RD LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

"I am a wife, mother, public health practitioner, and future physician who is passionate about improving youth mental health and wellness. I have been fortunate to study both public health and medicine at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, which has given me the opportunity to explore my interests, ask questions, grow as an individual, and identify how I can best contribute to improving the lives of youth. As a community-oriented physician I will be able to leverage my medical expertise and public health practice to fill the gap in behavioral health services and find innovative solutions to the behavioral health challenges facing youth in my community."
Danielle BohonosMaster of Public Health
"History is something that affects many aspects of our lives; it helps us understand who we are and how the systems and institutions may have helped and harmed people, so learning about my history and looking into myself was a key part of my Husky experience. This reflection strengthened my determination to honor my family’s story by serving my community and gaining an education centered around helping others through my involvement in my education and community spaces at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. I learned the importance of listening and learning about others' stories, to build trust and to make meaningful change in systems in and outside of public health, so I hope to carry the values and lessons I’ve learned to serve communities with intention and care."

SERVING THE 23RD LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ facilitates hundreds of programs in communities across the state. Below are a few that operate in your district. Programs active as of January 2023.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ in the High School

Through the program, high school sophomores, juniors and seniors can complete Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ courses — and earn college credit — in their own classrooms with their own teachers. Teachers are approved and trained by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty to teach official Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ courses using Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ curriculum, activities, texts, tests and grading scales. Participating students can earn college credits at a fraction of the cost, and these credits are accepted by most colleges and universities across Washington and around the country. Partner high schools can offer Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ coursework in computer science, math, science, world languages, humanities and social sciences. .ÌýÌý

Young Executives of Color

(YEOC) is a nine-month college pipeline program hosted by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Michael G. Foster School of Business. YEOC focuses on engaging high school students of color in a comprehensive curriculum that includes college preparation, professional development, business lectures and powerful mentorship. The program, which is free to students, currently serves 190 students from over 75 high schools around Washington state.

Pacific Northwest Seismic Network

The (PNSN), a partnership between the University of Oregon and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, is dedicated to reducing impacts of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in Washington and Oregon by providing accurate and timely information about earthquakes and ground motions to scientists, engineers, planners and the public. The second-largest seismic network in the United States, PNSN has more than 300 seismograph stations as well as several offices and personnel across the region.
