Set your Wayback machines for 1965 again this week as we present this black and white, 96-second film appropriately titled Womens Classes, circa 1965.
The film shows a couple dozen women studiously listening to a lecture by a male teacher or professor. Then, bags in hand, hems near the knee, they exit the classroom — which seems to be at the Seattle Centers Northwest Rooms— and are seen walking across the center grounds. In the foggy distance is the then-4-year-old Space Needle.
This is one of hundreds of reels of film that Hannah Palin, film archives specialist with Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Libraries Special Collections, is trying to identify for archiving purposes. She has film clips from the late 1930s through the 1970s — some from research projects, some from campus events and some from commercial films or original productions.
“We dont kow much about this clipâ€ other than whats obvious, Palin said. “Any information about womens education, outreach, extension or classes taught off-campus — and the use of Seattle Center — would be most welcome.â€
