Great ShakeOut earthquake drill is Oct. 15 at 10:15 a.m.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Emergency Management invites Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students, faculty, and staff to participate in the 2026 Great ShakeOut earthquake drill at 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 15. Wherever you are, we encourage you to practice the action that can help protect you during an earthquake: Drop, Cover, and Hold On.

  • Drop to your hands and knees so the shaking does not knock you down.
  • Cover your head and neck and, if possible, get beneath a sturdy table or desk.
  • Hold On until the shaking stops, staying with your shelter if it moves.

If no sturdy table is nearby, cover your head and neck with your arms and move away from windows, glass, and objects that could fall. Think about how you would respond in different situations such as being in bed, driving, in a crowded space, or somewhere without a sturdy table. Watch the to learn what to do during an earthquake. If you have mobility concerns, check out the .

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alert active threat communications drill – Jan. 22, 2026 at 1:22 p.m.

UPDATE: by Jan. 30 to share your feedback about the drill. The survey is anonymous unless you provide your email for a response to comments or questions.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Seattle campus will run a test of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alert system on Jan. 22, 1:22 p.m. in order to highlight for students, faculty and staff how they would be informed (and what to do) in the event of an active shooter attack on the campus.

The test will include a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alert message sent via text and email as well as a test of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s outdoor alert system (the blue towers located around campus). The message will clearly read TEST and include prompts for what actions to take during an actual emergency — run, hide, fight — and where to get additional information. The test will not include any simulations out around campus – no gunshots, sirens or simulated victims.

The experience will be similar to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alert Great ShakeOut test that was conducted on Oct. 16. In Seattle, the drill is scheduled for Jan. 22. At Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Tacoma, the active threat drill is on April 16. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Bothell’s drill is scheduled for April 14.

We know headlines and drills can be stressful for some. The test is an important step in being ready for something we hope never happens.
